Teenager injured in parking lot car accident

The Palm Beach Post reports that a teenage girl was hit by a car in her school parking lot around 6:45 a.m. and suffered minor injuries. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

While the teenage girl was not walking to school as in other recent incidents, there have been several students involved in collisions in Port St Lucie in crosswalks and parking lots while walking to school, according to a spokeswoman for the St. Lucie County School District.

Over the span of three days last month, a 5-year-old boy died and an 11-year-old girl was critically injured in Florida auto accidents while walking to meet the school bus.

Some have begun calling for improvements, like new bus routes, later school start times, and more sidewalks, to make the walk to school safer and reduce the number of Florida pedestrian and car accidents.
