On March 14th, around 5:24 AM, there was a severe car accident at the intersection of U.S. 27 and RWS Ranch Road. The car accident was between a semi-truck going eastbound on RWS Ranch Road and a pick-up truck going southbound on U.S. 27. This crash led to the driver’s death in the pick-up truck as he slammed into the side of the semi-truck. The speed limit on U.S. 27 at this stretch is 55 MPH. Florida State Troopers are unsure of the speed the pick-up truck was traveling. As of now, the troopers haven’t released who was at fault for the accident or what the charges are going to be.
The semi-truck driver was in the process of making a left turn from RWS Ranch Road onto U.S. 27. RSW Ranch road does have a stop sign, and drivers must proceed with caution as they enter or attempt to cross U.S. 27. Many drivers know how slowly semi-trucks begin driving after they have stopped. It is possible that the truck driver thought he had enough time to cross U.S. 27 and start heading northbound. At 5:24 AM, it is still dark, and the vision for both drivers could’ve been compromised. The driver of the pick-up truck was pronounced dead at the scene.
