Police Pursuit Ends in Crash

Police pursued a car in Margate over the weekend and the pursuit ended in a deadly crash. A teenage girl lost her life as a result of the accident that brought the chase to an abrupt halt.

According to reports, officers responded to a noise disturbance at the Olivine Apartment Complex. When they responded, they noticed a male driver and a female passenger in a parked car in the lot. Police approached the car and noticed a bottle of alcohol and smelled marijuana. They identified themselves and the driver sped off.

Police followed the car and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver accelerated, made a U-turn and continued on. Police lost sight of the car and just under a minute later, police in Margate reported a crash. Police indicate that the driver of the speeding vehicle lost control of the car, crossed the center line and was hit by an oncoming car.

The force of the impact sent the speeding car into a nearby tree. The passenger in the vehicle, an 18-year-old, lost her life. Charges are pending against the speeding driver pending an investigation. The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident was transported to a local hospital with injuries.
