Palm Beach County Deputy Accused of DUI

A captain with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department was arrested for driving under the influence on July 1. The arrest stemmed from a crash the captain was involved in that night.

According to reports, a corporal with the same department saw a vehicle and a motorcycle traveling at high rates of speed along Southern Boulevard at approximately 11 p.m. The vehicles collided with one another close to the intersection of Cypress Avenue. The motorcycle was sent airborne due to the force of the impact.

The driver of the vehicle was discovered to be an off-duty captain with the sheriff’s department. He exited his vehicle and was asked by the corporal to call 911. The corporal reported that the captain appeared disoriented following the collision and initially argued about who should call for emergency services.

The captain took a blood alcohol content test and registered .196 and then .202. He told investigating officers that he had taken prescription Xanax and consumed six beers. The captain was arrested and booked into jail. He was released Sunday morning. The driver of the motorcycle was airlifted to a hospital, suffering with serious injuries.
