Motorcyclist Injured in Multi-Vehicle Accident

A crash earlier in the month of July left a motorcyclist seriously injured. The rider was flown to a trauma center after the crash at U.S. 1 and Cove Road in Stuart. The crash involved a total of three vehicles and occurred just before 11:40 a.m.

According to a spokesperson from the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck was traveling southbound on U.S. 1 and turned east onto Cove Road. A passenger vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. 1 struck the pickup, sending the truck spinning. A motorcycle that was traveling northbound on the highway hit the pickup truck.

As a result of the collision, the pickup truck came to a rest facing west on the highway. The passenger vehicle stopped when it struck a pole, and the motorcycle was laying on its side. Traffic traveling northbound on the highway was diverted onto Cove Road while officials investigated the scene.

The intersection, according to officials, is heavily traveled. There are several commercial establishments in the area. Charges are pending the completion of the investigation. The status of the man flown to the trauma center was not immediately known.
