Facts About Hunger in Palm Beach County

The facts about hunger in Palm Beach County are staggering. Nearly half of the households in the county are struggling to make ends meet, and 43% of households find it difficult to cover their essential expenses. This includes hardworking families who often work multiple jobs but still face financial hardship. Over 132,000 people in Palm Beach County don’t know where their next meal will come from, and 37,350 of those are children who rely on free or reduced breakfast and lunch at school for a warm, healthy meal.

Food insecurity is particularly damaging to the health, development, and well-being of children and senior citizens. Older adults facing food insecurity are often forced to make difficult choices between purchasing groceries, visiting their doctors, or buying essential medications. Hunger often goes unseen by those not looking for it, and that’s why it’s important for all of us to work together to fight hunger in our communities.
