On August 26th, a Largo High student was killed while walking to his bus stop with his sister (uninjured) around 6:45 a.m. The teen was walking across Belleair Road when he was struck by a sedan that was driving westbound; the teen was pronounced dead at the scene. Ethan Weiser had walked this path to his bus stop many times before, but this school year was different. His uncle, Matt Croasmun, informed reporters that Ethan’s bus stop had changed to the other side of the street. Neighbors have reported that this pathway is not properly lit, so the visibility in the early morning and at night is very poor, and they have been trying to get this fixed.
There are signs on Belleair Road that warn about poor visibility, but those that live along this road would rather have streetlights be added. According to the Pinellas Country School District leaders, the bus stop meets state guidelines for its location. The road has become more popular throughout the years, so traffic is starting to flow more frequently, and parents are worried that it is becoming unsafe for their children to walk to this bus stop.
