Shortly before midnight on April 13, a crash occurred on I-95 that resulted in the closure of the highway. The woman, driving a passenger vehicle, was in an accident with two semi-trucks just south of Florida 207.
According to reports, the southbound lanes of I-95 were closed to traffic for approximately 14 hours following the crash. Officials spent the time investigating the accident and clearing the scene. So far, investigators are saying that the woman was traveling behind one semi-truck when traffic slowed.
The leading semi-truck slowed with the traffic as did the woman in the Toyota. A semi-truck behind the woman failed to slow, hitting the woman in the back of her car, sending her into the rear of the lead semi-truck. Both the car and the rear of the lead semi-truck were crumpled in the accident.
The driver of the first semi-truck did not sustain injuries.
Officials urge anyone driving to stay aware of their surroundings and the actions of the vehicles around them. It is possible that this accident, and others like it, could have been avoided had the driver in the rear semi-truck followed the flow of traffic and slowed as others did. The investigation into this accident is on-going and no charges have been filed at this time.
