WEST PALM BEACH, FLA – Driving while intoxicated is never a good decision. A 53-year-old woman discovered this first hand when she crashed into a police car at Worthington Road and Australian Avenue.
According to reports, Officer Eric Evrley was on Australian Avenue, in his marked patrol car, when the woman, Cynthia Osborne, turned left into the northbound lanes. The front of the police cruiser crashed into the passenger side of Osborne’s vehicle. Both were transported to local hospitals with injuries that were not considered life threatening.
During the investigation, officers discovered that Osborne has a pending case for a DUI arrest that occurred in March of this year. In that accident, Osborne struck another vehicle in its rear, stumbled from her car, and told the other driver, “I didn’t stop quick enough.”
The latest accident has Osborne facing a felony DUI charge, as well as a charge for refusing to submit to a blood test and driving under suspension. Officers found an open bottle of wine in Osborne’s vehicle following the accident.
While many people assume that most DUI accidents occur at night or in the early morning hours after bars close, both of Osborne’s accidents occurred in the day. The first, at 4 p.m. took place after Osborne had been drinking for approximately five hours. The latest took place at 8:30 a.m. It’s important to remember that drunk drivers don’t schedule their bad decisions. You could be sharing the road with an impaired driver at any time of day or night. Always be aware when you drive and alert the authorities to any driver who appears to be impaired.
