An accident in Pembroke Pines during Christmas afternoon caused an 87-year-old woman to lose her life. The crash also caused what was called “severe damage” to two vehicles. Traffic was blocked for over an hour due to the collision.
According to police reports, the accident occurred at the intersection of Dykes Road and Sheridan Street just before 3 p.m. on Christmas day. Police say that a female driver was attempting to make a left turn when she collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction.
The three people in the first vehicle were all taken to Memorial Regional Hospital to be treated for injuries. The elderly woman, a passenger in the vehicle, succumbed to her injuries. The other two people in the car, including the driver, had minor injuries. The second vehicle held our people, none of whom were injured in the crash.
Police continue to investigate the accident and have not released any further details with regards to its cause or if charges would be filed.
While Christmas is certainly a terrible day to experience any type of tragedy, no day is a good one for a car accident.
