A crash closed down a highway in south Florida and four people lost their lives. The crash occurred in Islamorada on March 5. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, several of those involved in the crash were from outside the United States.
Four women from Spain were killed in the crash that happened on U.S. 1 close to mile marker 80. The accident took place early Monday afternoon and caused to closure of the highway while police investigated the scene.
A spokesperson for the department said that the tourists were attempting to make a left turn when a truck struck them from behind. The collision caused the vehicle to be pushed into the opposite lane of traffic. A motorhome being driven by a man from Alaska struck the car, causing the car to hit a tree. The women in the vehicle were said to have died immediately.
The driver of the motorhome and his passenger were treated for injuries that were said to be minor.
Police continue to investigate the crash and it is expected that charges will be filed once fault is determined.
