A 24-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter both died as the result of a car crash on Apalachee Parkway near Raymond Tucker Road in Tallahassee, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon.
The mother was headed to pick up her eight-year-old son from school when she suddenly swerved in her 2006 Nissan Sentra, lost control, and drove through the median into the westbound lanes.
The Sentra slid into the path of a 1994 Ford Ranger, driven by a 19-year-old male. The Ranger struck the Sentra on the passenger side, and both cars landed in a ditch. The mother, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from her car.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene and her mother was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where she was taken off life support on Thursday afternoon.
The driver of the Ranger suffered minor injuries.
Investigators say they are working to determine the cause of the crash.
