A Palm Coast 76-year-old woman died after being stuck by a car on Thursday evening, reports the Daytona Beach News-Journal. She was struck as she walked north along the east side of Columbia Lane north of Colechester Lane.
She was hit by a Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by a 55-year-old woman from Palm Coast, according to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). She was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center, where she died on Saturday.
The driver of the Chrysler did not see the woman “for unknown reasons” the FHP reports states. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
On the day that the 76-year-old woman was struck, she had bought a dress to wear to her grandson’s wedding, her daughter said in a phone interview Monday. The grandson and his fiancée are planning to display a picture of his grandmother at their wedding, her daughter said.
The woman died just short of her 77th birthday, which would have been Monday. Her mother was active and walked a couple of miles every morning.
“My mother is a walker,” she said. “She has walked all her life.”
On the evening that she was struck by the car, she had been at her boyfriend’s house. She had stepped outside to walk her miniature poodle, Molly.
My mother was in good health, the daughter said.
“There was no health problems with her whatsoever, so the shock is on,” she said. “It’s hard to believe.”
