In West Palm Beach, Florida, the Florida millionaire on trial for DUI manslaughter unexpectedly took the stand in his own defense today, reports My Fox Orlando.
The millionaire said that he was driving to get a Wendy’s Frosty and that his brakes malfunctioned just before an intersection.
He told ABC News, “I took my foot off the brake and that was the last thing I remember.”
His Bentley then collided with a 23-year-old man’s Hyundai, sending it crashing into a canal. The Hyundai’s driver’s cause of death was drowning.
The driver of the Bentley said that he was so out of it after the accident that he had no idea that the Hyundai had ended up in the water.
The millionaire said that he had two shots of tequila and two shots of vodka at the polo club on the night of the accident, but he said that he was “absolutely not” drunk. Prosecutors claim that the millionaire was intoxicated after having 16 to 18 drinks at the time of the incident.
The 48-year-old millionaire faces up to 30 years in prison on charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and the leaving the scene of an accident.
