WEST PALM BEACH, Fla – Imagine being a bit tired and laying down for a nap. You are exhausted after spending time with a toddler and want to get some rest. Imagine that rest being terrifyingly interrupted by the sounds of an explosion.
That is exactly what happened to Isabel Batista Friday evening at her home in West Palm Beach.
According to reports of the incident, Batista had just settled down with her 2-year-old niece for a nap. What happened next may mean that they are both lucky to be alive.
The sound was not a bomb going off or an explosion of any type. Instead, it was an SUV smashing through the wall of her house. The vehicle, driven by an un-named man, crashed through the back of Batista’s home because, authorities say, the man behind the wheel does not know how to drive. He was ultimately charged with careless driving and driving without a license.
Myra Santana Vacallao, a cousin of Batista, said that the accident could have been much more tragic. Two children in the home had asked to go outside to play just moments before the accident and were told no. Had they been given permission, they would likely have been playing on the swing set in the back yard.
No one was injured in the incident but the home did receive excessive damage.
