Neighbors on a West Palm Beach stretch of road are saying that they have witnessed a number of accidents and are attributing them to speeding. Residents along a stretch of North Australian Avenue, between Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and 45th Street, say the street has become a raceway.
According to some residents, there is a lack of law enforcement in the area, which is contributing to the accidents. Traffic engineers admit that an intersection located on Australian has the highest rate of accidents within city limits. Police beg to differ.
Police say that the stretch of road that people are complaining about is not in the city’s top 10 when it comes to accidents. Although police have written more than a thousand citations on the roadway, they do have to enforce the law in all areas of the city. Police say they are doing a lot with the limited manpower they have available.
The speeders are presenting a danger to people in the area, but speeding vehicles are not the only problem. Dirt bikes and power bikes are also in the area, running stop signs and intersections. Residents want something done about the accidents that they call “horrific.”
