A four-car crash occurred in Pembroke Pines on December 16 in the morning hours. The multi-vehicle accident is believed to possibly have been caused by a medical event on the part of one of the drivers.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle that caused the collision was in the intensive care unit of a local hospital following the accident. That driver was traveling southbound as he approached the intersection of Johnson Street and University Drive. The man failed to yield or stop at the intersection, striking other cars who were waiting for the red light to change.
One driver refused medical treatment, but his passengers were taken to a local hospital. A second driver was taken to a hospital, treated and released. The third driver struck was also taken to a local hospital. That person’s condition was not reported.
Police continue to investigate the crash in an attempt to determine exactly what happened. It is unclear if any charges will be filed.
