A Cocoa, Florida, woman died in a motorcycle and car crash in Orange County, Florida, on the morning of Saturday, September 3, while a man was seriously injured in the crash.
The accident occurred just prior to 11 a.m. Saturday on State Road 520 at the Beachline when an Orange County deputy was attempting to pull over a speeding motorcycle. As the motorcycle slowed down to pull over, a 2007 Ford 150 truck driven by an 18-year-old male did not slow down and rear-ended the motorcycle. Both riders were thrown off.
The 58-year-old male motorcyclist was taken in an ambulance to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he is in critical condition but expected to live. The 48-year-old woman was airlifted to Florida Hospital East, where she was pronounced dead.
Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
The crash is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol, which closed the westbound lanes of 520 for clean-up and to review the crash circumstances. Authorities have said alcohol was not a factor in the accident and that charges may be pending.
Neither the driver nor passenger in the F-150 were injured.
