An accident that occurred on March 6 took the life of one person and left two officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department injured. The accident occurred just after 1:30 in the morning at the intersection of SW 260th Street and SW 147th Avenue.
According reports, the officers were on patrol in the area. The officer driving the patrol car was a six-year veteran and the officer in the passenger seat was a new hire. The officers were traveling on SW 260th and had a stop sign. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision was traveling on SW 147th Avenue and was not required to stop.
The driver of the vehicle on SW 147th entered the intersection and the crash occurred. It is now under investigation in order to determine which driver was at fault. An accident reconstructionist is attempting to determine if one of the vehicles was speeding. It is possible that if the police officer is found to be at fault in the accident, charges could be filed.
Neither officer sustained life-threatening injuries but were both airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital.
