A bus crash in Mexico recently made international news. Passengers on that bus included three family members from South Florida, each who lost their lives.
According to reports, a bus filled with tourists that were passengers on two separate South Florida cruise ships flipped over. The bus had been on its way to Mayan ruins located in eastern Mexico. Officials in Mexico say that the bus driver was speeding at the time of the crash, and they are blaming the accident on the driver’s negligence.
The driver of the bus is being investigated for manslaughter. During the investigation, it was discovered that the driver was speeding and lost control when attempting to return the bus to a narrow highway. The bus flipped and hit a tree, ultimately landing on the roadside.
A 78-year-old woman who died had just lost her husband in February. She died in the accident along with a daughter and grandson. In addition to this family, five other Americans, a Canadian and two people from Sweden were among those killed in the accident. A tour guide from Mexico was also killed.
Photos of the accident showed the bus laying on its side along the side of the road. The driver was reportedly taken to a hospital and treated for injuries.
