An accident at the end of February severely impacted the life of a 46-year-old man in Port St. Lucie. Sadly, the person who struck the man fled the scene. Officers investigated the crash as a hit-and-run.
According to reports, the man was walking down Southwest Bayshore Boulevard when he was struck by a vehicle. The man was located along the side of the road with body and head trauma. He was immediately transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute and listed in critical condition.
Residents heard the crash ata bout 1:30 in the morning and called authorities. People who had any information about the crash were asked to phone the Port St. Lucie Police Department.
Officials are reminding people that if they are walking after the sun goes down, they should have bright, reflective clothing on. Stick to sidewalks where they are available, or walk as far into the shoulder of the road as possible. If you are driving, be on the lookout for pedestrians, even if you don’t expect to see anyone out. Distracted driving is the number one cause of accidents on today’s roadways and is entirely preventable.
