A man from Jupiter was struck and killed by a car on Interstate I-95 on Saturday, March 3. The Florida Highway Patrol reported the accident and its details.
According to that report, a 24-year-old man was traveling southbound on the highway, transporting a load. The load was apparently not secured either properly or well and ended up spilling onto the highway. The driver pulled over to the left shoulder and exited his vehicle to retrieve the items that he had lost.
Another person also traveling southbound in a pickup truck struck the driver of the first vehicle. The man who was hit was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, but the driver of the second truck was not injured. Police did not say whether or not the driver of the pickup truck would be charged with any crime.
Officials recommend that any person hauling materials be sure that they are secured appropriately. They also remind people that entering the highway on foot is a dangerous thing to do. If you are carrying a load that spills onto the highway, call for emergency assistance to determine the best course of action.
