A man driving a car attempted to flee police, ending up causing a wreck that injured a woman. The accident occurred early Saturday morning, according to police reports.
A man from Lake Worth was arrested and charged with eluding a law enforcement officer and leaving the scene of an accident. The man was traveling on South Military Trail just before 1 a.m. A deputy witnessed the man fail to stop for a red light and activated his emergency lights. The man refused to stop, speeding through a local parking lot.
The man exited the parking lot, re-entering South Military Trail. The man traveled south and the deputy gave up the chase in the interest of safety. The man ran another red light and then made a right turn onto Lake Worth Road. It was then that the man slammed head-on into another vehicle.
A woman was transported to the hospital for injuries to her neck and abdomen. After the accident, the man exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. He was caught and subdued by witnesses until deputies arrived.
Drivers are advised that it is against the law to refuse to stop for a police officer. It is also illegal to drive off after being involved in an accident. You can be charged criminally for both of these actions.
