Imagine breaking down on the street. It’s stressful enough without having to worry about other vehicles not seeing you. Unfortunately, that is what happened to a man in Fort Lauderdale late in June.
According to police reports, a man was standing next to his stalled vehicle around 6:30 p.m. on East Las Olas Boulevard. The New Jersey resident broke down and exited his vehicle. He was standing beside it when both he and his car were struck by a driver. The man was taken to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the man did not stop. The car was found later on Tarpon Drive in Fort Lauderdale, but the driver was nowhere to be found. Police continue to look for the driver of that car. Anyone with information is asked to call crime stoppers at 954-493-8477.
If the driver is located, he or she will face multiple charges. Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in Florida. The fact that the victim passed away will likely result in further criminal charges being pressed.
