A 40-year-old male driver was killed in a car wreck in Jay, Florida, at the intersection of State Road 87 and State Road 4 on Saturday morning, the Destin Logreports. A 46-year-old woman and four children, all in the car with him, also were injured.
Another driver, a 47-year-old man from Jay, was headed east on State Road 4. He stopped his pickup truck at the stop sign at State Road 87 around 9 a.m. but failed to see the other man’s SUV headed north on State Road 87. The truck hit the front of the SUV, causing it to flip over.
The SUV rolled over three times, expelling the 40-year-old man, a 14-year-old, and a 10-year-old. All three were not wearing seat belts. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the children were both critically injured. The woman and two more children, ages 16 and 10, were seriously injured.
All five were taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
The other driver was not injured in the wreck.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that alcohol was not a factor in the accident. Charges are pending.
