Christmas Eve saw the elderly Paulino struck by a maroon vehicle while riding his bicycle near the intersection of Griffin Road and Southwest 31st Avenue. Originally left with injuries that had him listed in critical condition, Paulino is slowly gaining strength.
According to the family of the victim, Paulino was returning home from the grocery store, where he had gone to buy food for a family Christmas party. The accident, which occurred around 3:30 in the afternoon, remains under investigation. The driver who struck Paulino immediately left the scene of the accident.
Officials report that Paulino suffered three broken bones as a result of being struck by the vehicle, identified as either a car or van. Since the accident, Paulino has undergone three separate surgeries to repair his damaged body. Although the injuries suffered were severe, Paulino is expected to make a full recovery.
Relatives of the man are reaching out to the public for help. Details remain sketchy at this point in the investigation, but the vehicle is believed to possibly be a red-in-color Hyundai. Witnesses to the accident are unclear as to whether the vehicle was a car or small van.
Says Paulino’s wife, “Only the police tell me the people left; he left. Alonso is thrown away in the floor. Those people don’t care if Alonso died or not.”
