The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that a man lost his life early Sunday morning when a truck he was riding in ran a red light and caused a collision. Early reports indicated that the driver of the vehicle may have been under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the incident.
According to reports, a truck was being driven by a man from West Palm Beach. The driver of the truck was heading west on Purdy Lane just before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Investigators say that the driver failed to stop at a red light, driving into the intersection at Haverhill Road.
After the truck traveled through the intersection, it struck a car being driven by a man from North Lauderdale. The vehicles hit head on before colliding a second time and coming to a stop. The driver of the vehicle and a 4-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the accident.
The passenger in the truck was not wearing a seat belt and died on scene. A second passenger in the truck suffered minor injuries as did the truck’s driver.
While this incident is tragic, it goes to show how important seat belts are. No matter where you are sitting in a vehicle, wearing a seat belt could save your life.
