A fatal accident resulting in 2 deaths occurred when Twenty-year-old driver Kayla Mendoza drove the wrong way on the Sawgrass Expressway around 1:45 am Sunday November 17th, and used the social media site Twitter to tweet ‘2 drunk 2 care’ hours before the accident.
Mendoza, who was driving east in the westbound lane, collided head-on with a Toyota Camry occupied by driver Kaitlyn Ferrante and passenger Marisa Catronio. The two were on their way home to Coral Springs after celebrating Catronio’s 21st birthday. Catronio was pronounced deceased on the scene and Ferrante passed away four days later on the following Thursday. According to a WFOR-TV Miami report, Kaitlyn’s heart was donated.
Further investigation has uncovered Mendoza’s online persona as a ‘pothead princess’ and has boasted about being drunk and/or high in many of her tweets. According to FHP, she is hospitalized in serious condition. Police are aware of her tweets and are continuing an investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
