A child was hit by a car on February 14 and survived. The accident occurred in Coral Springs at the intersection of Northwest 35th Court and Woodside Drive.
According to reports and witness accounts, a woman was driving a vehicle into The Preserves housing development. A child came out from in between two vehicles and into the woman’s path. The child was struck and sent airborne. His sister picked him up and was advised by witnesses not to move him. Police on scene report that the boy is expected to be okay.
The child who was hit was taken to nearby Broward Health North Medical Center and was listed in stable condition. Witnesses say the child had injuries to his nose and mouth. The initial investigation did not result in charges to the female driver. The child was witnessed to have run into traffic, but the investigation remained open as of its reporting.
People who live in the nearby development say that more is needed to keep pedestrians safe in the area. Residents suggest that a traffic signal or more police presence is needed. Drivers are also urged to be mindful as they travel through the area. Even though the accident investigation was not complete, it was not expected that the driver would be cited.
