A person lost their life and more than 12 other people were injured in an accident that took place on Alligator Alley. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a van carrying more than a dozen people was involved in the wreck.
Reports indicate that the van, carrying 15 people, was eastbound on I-75 in the left lane. A black pickup truck was traveling behind the van and hit the van’s rear. The collision caused the driver of the van to lose control. The van flipped over and came to a rest on the other side of the highway. The truck ended up striking the median.
A passenger in the van lost their life. Those in the van who sustained injury were taken to hospitals in the area. More than one person was transported as “trauma alerts.” The FHP said that most of the passengers in the van were minors.
The driver of the truck was also injured in the accident. He was transported to a local hospital and was ultimately charged with vehicular manslaughter and several counts of DUI with serious bodily injury to another person.
