A young child was seriously hurt in an accident that occurred on Christmas morning in Fort Pierce. Police say that speed may have been a factor in the crash. The child ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
According to reports, a car being driven by the stepfather of the boy was traveling east on Cortez Boulevard. The vehicle crashed into a Ford pickup truck that was parked off the roadway. That truck was not occupied. Reports indicated that black skid marks were located at the scene.
There were two adults and two children in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The children were in the backseat, and it was unclear whether either of the children were wearing seatbelts. The driver of the vehicle and the other child in the backseat also sustained injuries. The passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency responders and sustained injuries as well.
The other child hurt in the accident will have to undergo rehabilitation for injuries to her arm and leg. Family members say that Christmas was also the birthday of the young boy who was fatally injured.
