Tim Tebow has made the news recently, but not because of his prowess on the baseball field. He is in the news because of what is being called a freak accident at the Mets spring training complex.
According to reports, Tebow was in the outfield when his foot got caught on a sprinkler. He sprained his left ankle as a result of the accident and is said to be nursing it back to health. Tebow told reporters that the accident happened Monday or Tuesday of last week.
It was expected that Tebow would have an X-ray and, if no structural damage was found, he would be assigned as the designated hitter against the Astros. This will be Tebow’s debut with the Grapefruit League. Since the injury, Tebow continues to practice in the batting cage and catching fly balls, but he hasn’t been running bases. It is said that the injury hasn’t affected his power.
Just how Tebow tripped over the sprinkler head and injured himself is not known. It was not indicated whether the sprinklers were supposed to be above ground during practice or not. The former Heisman Trophy winner seems to be taking the injury in stride, so to speak.
