A serious auto accident took the life of a young Port St. Lucie woman, and a 22-year-old man has been charged as a result. The young man has been charged with DUI-vehicular homicide following the collision.
According to reports of the incident, the man was driving just after 2:00 a.m. on January 20. He was traveling in the 600 block of SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard in the westbound lane. Reports indicate that he was driving a Hyundai Santa Fe.
At the same time that the man was driving, a woman was driving her own vehicle. She attempted to make a right turn onto SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard off of SW Del Rio. When the woman made the turn, she was struck in the side of her vehicle by the man in the SUV in what is more commonly referred to as a T-bone accident.
Fire rescue crews responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene. The male driver of the SUV was unconscious when responders arrived and transported to a local hospital. At the hospital, the man was given a blood alcohol test and registered .17, more than twice the legal limit. The victim in the crash also had an elevated blood alcohol content.
