An accident on February 10 caused the closure of a Miami Beach highway early in the morning. According to a spokesman for the Florida Highway Patrol, a man driving on the Interstate 195 on-ramp lost control of his vehicle and struck a guardrail.
The driver of the vehicle was not identified, nor was his passenger. The driver was thrown from the vehicle as a result of the impact and lost his life on the scene of the accident. The passenger in the vehicle was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.
As a result of the accident, the westbound lanes of I-95 were closed. Morning traffic delays resulted until the highway was back open. Officials reported that the highway was open to traffic as of 9:30 a.m.
It is unclear why the man lost control of his vehicle and officers are not releasing any further details of the accident. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol played a factor, and it was not mentioned if either person was wearing a seat belt.
