It’s the season for shopping. If you haven’t been out and about yet, you will notice that parking lots are more crowded than usual when you do make it to the store. Walking through a parking lot during the holiday season, and any other time of year, takes vigilance. Unfortunately, this was proven to be all too true when a woman was struck and killed in a Walmart parking lot in Boca Raton.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, a woman was struck by a Honda as it was backing out of a parking space. The woman was transported to Delray Medical Center, where she ultimately died of her injuries. The driver of the vehicle, a 63-year-old woman, said that she noticed the victim walking toward her vehicle. She thought she put the car in park, but actually put it in reverse.
When the woman noticed that the car was still moving, she attempted to hit the brake. In reality, she pressed on the gas. The driver struck the victim and then hit three other parked vehicles. The vehicles that were hit were unoccupied. Police did not indicate if charges would be filed in the incident.
