Broward General Hospital Infections

Contaminated Medical Equipment Used at Broward General Hospital

Contaminated IV PatientsMore than 1,800 Broward General Medical Center patients may be at risk for HIV, hepatitis, and other infectious diseases. A nurse at the South Florida hospital knowingly reused IV bags contaminated with other patients’ fluids on various individuals who went to the Broward General Medical Center for cardiac chemical stress tests.

Nurse Reused Contaminated IV Bags
The nurse, Qui Lan, had been handling these IVs since 2004 and has potentially put 1,851 patients at risk. When her dangerous practices were discovered, she was suspended from the hospital. She then resigned and fled the country.

Patients May Be Infected with AIDS/HIV, Hepatitis
People who went to Broward General Medical Center for cardiac chemical stress tests may have been infected with HIV, hepatitis, and other serious diseases because “fluids from one patient may have seeped back into the bag and then transferred to another patient that used the same bag,” according to hospital officials.

Thousands of letters were sent by Broward General to patients asking them to get tested for HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B and C. If you received one of these letters, you may be at risk.
