Local firm, Steinger, Greene, & Feiner, brings Good Humor to holiday celebration for the Caregiving Youth Project

Dessert donation adds to the good cheer and community support for school-aged caregivers

WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA- In our community, there is a population of children who have taken on the role of primary caregiver for a sick or disabled parent, guardian, or other relative.  Recognizing the unique challenges this population faces, the Caregiving Youth Project of Palm Beach (CYPPB) creates programs around healthcare, education, and community to solidify a foundation of support services for these youngsters. In addition to their year-round support, CYPPB partners with local organizations and businesses to make the holidays a special time for the young caregivers.

On December 21, 2014, the organization held the annual Holiday Store where the youth were given the opportunity to shop for each member of their family ensuring that everyone in the household has a gift for the holidays. All Holiday Store items were made up of donations from organizations and area businesses.

Community law firm, Steinger, Greene, & Feiner participated by donating dessert in the form of the Good Humor Ice Cream Truck. “Engaging the community and extending a helping hand, especially where children are concerned, is very important to us and is an integral part of our mission and vision,” says firm founding partner Michael Steinger.

Steinger, Greene, & Feiner donated to contribute to and support CYPPB’s sense of community. Steinger says, “We aren’t just a business operating in this community. We are part of the fabric of this community as are these young caregivers. We wanted to see these kids smile and just enjoy being kids – especially during the holiday season.” Judging from the smiles on the faces of the children who attended the event, the firm’s Good Humor donation coupled with the participation and donations from other community organizations served to achieve the mission.

CYPPB is the local chapter of the larger national organization – American Association of Caregiving Youth (AACY). School-aged caretakers experience stressors and have responsibilities that, in many instances, keep them from reaching educational goals and participating in youth-centric activities. These organizations work to ensure a sense of stability and normalcy. They lend necessary support to prevent members of this at-risk population from falling through the cracks.
