Florida baseball pitcher involved in DUI crash
March 26, 2012
In jail today after last week’s DUI hit-and-run accident that left a motorcyclist hospitalized in critical condition, a Tampa Bay Rays minor-league pitcher faces multiple charges, reports Sporting News.
Facing seven charges from the incident on Thursday, he remains in the Charlotte County Jail with his bail set at more than $1 million.
The motorcyclist was struck from behind by the baseball pitcher’s SUV. The biker fell from the motorcycle, and his head was run over by the SUV.
The pitcher left the scene of the accident and was later arrested and charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. He blew a .180 blood-alcohol level on a field sobriety test.
Nevertheless, he was driving a Dodge Durango when he struck the Harley Davidson from behind on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte, the Florida Highway Patrol report states.
The motorcyclist remains at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers with broken ribs, several broken bones in his back, a broken wrist, road rash covering both arms, hemorrhaging in his brain, and a collapsed lung.
